Got a question? We’ve got the answer!

We answer the most commonly asked questions about Digipal, our Plastic Pallets, Asset Tracking and Pallet Pooling and Renting services below.

Digipal's Plastic Pallets

Are Digipal Plastic Pallets better than wooden ones?

Digipal’s Plastic Pallets are a more sustainable and more environmentally friendly alternative to wooden pallets. Digipal’s range of pallets has been designed to handle the toughest of supply chains, tested to a BS8611 standard to handle consistent weight loading time after time.

How are Digipal Plastic Pallets cheaper than wooden ones?

Digipal Plastic Pallets are more cost-effective because of how we manage the pool.  Digipal charges a ‘trip’ fee when customers are using the pallet for a single use this ‘trip’ price is often far less than the cost to purchase a wooden pallet. We also save our customers in storage, admin and capex fees by supplying the exact amount of pallets they need when they need them.

Are Digipal Plastic Pallets better for the environment?

Digipal’s Plastic Pallets are made from 100% recyclable materials, they are manufactured with a long hard-working life in mind with use cases showing well over 250 cycles before any repair is needed.

Even at the end of their life each pallet can be recycled and made into a new pallet an infinite number of times making it very environmentally friendly and a low-impact carbon emission emitter.

How durable are Digipal Plastic Pallets?

The lifespan of a Digipal Plastic Pallet is longer than that of its wooden counterpart, the Digipal pallet has been known to last well over 250 rotations before needing any repair, compared to a wooden pallet that is on average around 4 rotations.

Digipal’s Plastic Pallets are less likely to require maintenance, easier to clean and less susceptible to material degradation – which can lead to splinters and other hazardous breakages.

Digipal’s Plastic Pallets can be used time and time again.

How are Digipal Plastic Pallets made?

Digipal’s injection moulding process involves heating & injecting high-density polyethylene material under pressure into a closed metal mould tool.

The molten plastic cools & hardens into the shape inside the mould tool, which then opens to allow the mouldings to be ejected.

How long do you expect a Digipal Plastic Pallet to last?

Here at Digipal, based on real-life experience and data we have pallets that are lasting well over 250 cycles.

The number of movements a year will determine the number of years a pallet will last.

How much weight can a Digipal Plastic Pallet hold

Digipals Plastic Pallets come with a BS 8611 testing certificate meaning they have been tested to the highest level of safety standards our customers can carry with confidence when loading their products onto our solutions. Plastic pallets are split into three categories when specifying weight handling.

  • Static – Floor loading weight
  • Dynamic – Moving weight
  • Racking – Open two beam weight

Because of their versatility, Digipal pallets can come with different options but as a standard, they perform:

  • Static – 7500kg
  • Dynamic – 2500kg
  • Racking – 1250kg
What is the difference between static and dynamic load capacity?

Static load is where the pallet is stationary and not being moved. Let’s say you want to keep a very heavy item off the floor and crane it onto the pallet. The Digipal pallet can take 7.5 tonnes in weight. The dynamic load is moving weight and this is where you can physically pick the load up with the pallet, for most of the Digipal range this is 2.5 tonnes

What special features do Digipal Plastic Pallets have over wood?

The Digipal range is manufactured with the operator in mind.

  • Lighter than a wooden pallet
  • Unique ‘anchoring system’ to lock plastic crates to the top deck
  • Non-slip inserts to avoid slipping on forklift tines
  • Nesting feature means 66% space saving
  • Cleverly designed block feet to reduce impact damage from PPT and forklifts
Digipal Plastic Pallet sizing? – UK, Europe and US

Like in wooden format there are many different sizes of Plastic pallets. Here at Digipal we concentrate on the key sizes in our pooling and rental solutions.

  • Uniform in size and weight, causing less disruption to automated processes
  • More hygienic and safer in sterilised environments as they are resistant to moisture, fungi, and mold
  • No wood chips or nails which can cause injury and of course need cleaning.
  • Do not have splinters or fasteners which can damage products
  • Plastic pallets are of course exempt from ISPM15 and therefore border inspection which can improve crossing speeds and costs
What are the disadvantages of plastic over wood?

Although individual wooden pallets are a cheaper alternative. Digipal Platic Pallets come IoT-enabled allowing you to drastically reduce the rate of asset loss and boost profitability.

Digipal’s Pallet Pooling option allows any supply chain, regardless of size, adopt a smart and durable solution for logistics.

Why our customers choose Digipal over our competitors?

Digipal is a simple-to-deal-with, no-hassle, straight-up solution provider.

We have our own in-house asset management system which also runs our IOT platform everything is connected through one system seamlessly. We strive to save our customers money using the latest solutions at our disposal with over 20+ years of experience in supply chain solutions and our vast experience in injection moulding plastics.

What’s the difference between good plastic and bad plastic?

Good plastics are those that can be recycled, used an infinite amount of times and have a positive impact on the environment, such as the plastics we use in our Digipal Plastic Pallets. These are 100% recyclable which means at the end of their hard working life they are recycled into new plastic pallets, crates or boxes.

Bad plastics are those that are difficult or impossible to recycle and although recycling processes have gotten better, often the term recycling means recycled to energy recovery (the plastic is burned to create energy).

Digipal's Pallet Pooling & Renting Options

How does Digipal’s Pallet Pooling work?

Digipal reusables such as our Digipal Plastic Pallets are delivered to a supplier when and where they are needed, having already been washed and inspected, this is the beginning of their journey.

The supplier uses the reusable asset for sending their goods, you only pay for the single ‘trip’ through the entire supply chain. These goods are sent to their customers, and unloaded making the Digipal reusable asset available for collection.

Digipal then arranges collection of the reusable assets such as the Digipal Plastic Pallets back to one of our wash sites where they are inspected, washed under the most critical food safety program and repaired, if necessary, ready to be reissued out as a clean reusable.

How does Digipal's Pallet Renting work?

Renting pallets from Digipal is really straightforward, there is no requirement for Capex or any upfront payment. You simply rent what you need and pay a daily hire free for each pallet you have on hire. This gives companies the flexibility to spend Capex elsewhere. Customers can also benefit from access to the DigiPortal should they wish to enhance their rental offering from us to capitalise from using our asset management system to help better utilisation and flow to really sweat those rental assets. Digipal are always on hand to coach and maximise efficiency.

Is Digipal's Pallet Pooling better for the environment?

Digipal’s Pallet Pooling is about the sharing of assets across multiple companies. When you compare the work rate of a pooled asset to that of a purchased one the pooled asset is always moving and working, therefore in its working life it’s being used much more.

They carry more carbon emission weight across their full life cycle from ‘cradle to grave’ it’s much more environmentally friendly.

Because Digipal is set up to inspect and repair we often capture assets and repair them before they go beyond the point of just needing to be recycled this alone extends the pallets working life.

Once a Digipal Plastic Pallet reaches the end of its life it is 100% recycled and the material is reused to manufacture another plastic pallet.

Do I get IoT asset tracking with Digipal Pallet Pooling?

Digipal looks to modernise the world of pallet pooling, combining the latest in IoT solutions and innovative plastic solutions to bring smart asset pooling.

All of Digipal’s Platic Pallets come IoT enabled, whether that’s simple RFID or cutting edge Battery Bluetooth technology, a percentage of the fleet is full 2G cellular tracked.

Digipal's Asset Tracking

What kind of technology do Digipal use?
  • Barcode
  • RFID
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi
  • Sigfox
  • Cellular
  • Cat-M
  • NB-IoT
How does Digipal's Asset Tracking work?

Digipal has at its disposal an array of different tracking solutions ranging from RFID all the way to the latest Cellular NB-IoT devices.

Digipal likes to stay at the forefront of the latest technologies and as such we are the key partner and distributor of the Battery-free Bluetooth technology developed by Wiliot, which is taking supply chains by storm. All of these technologies work in different ways but the important part to know is that all that data is funnelled and decrypted in our DigiPortal where data is turned into meaningful insights. These insights are used to give our customers the data they need to make business decisions relating to their supply chain.

This is where Digipal differs, we use our experience in supply chain and business improvement to transform your data into tangible and actionable insights.

How accurate is Digipal’s Asset Tracking?

Like any tracking solution, it comes down to your specific requirements.

With Cellular tracking, we can tell you what building and more often than not which part of the building your asset is in.

With our Bluetooth solutions, it’s easier to get down to a smaller range, say within a 15-metre radius.

Remember that RFID could be within a few metres and a barcode less than a metre so it’s really about understanding the use case before understanding what level of accuracy is required. A degree of loss is often more acceptable than having total visibility, Digipal always operates on the best ROI for your business.

What assets do Digipal track?

Digipal can track almost anything with our in-house designers we can create a new mould to fit and suit different asset types.

Currently, we are tracking, pallets, roll cages, hyper cages, glitter boxes, magnums, dolav boxes, bulk boxes, bale arms, food crates, euro crates, attached lidded containers, liquid containers, vehicles and many more obscure items.

What battery life can you expect?

Some of our devices have a battery life of up to 20 years but some are not restrained by battery, the Wiliot tags harvest waste and intentional radio frequency waves from the ambient environment meaning they never need a battery replacement as there is no battery.

Our standard cellular devices come with a minimum of a 5-year battery life.
